5 Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

During this crazy midterm season, it is easy to forget that Halloween is creeping up fast. Thinking of a costume is probably the last thing on your mind. So we at OHM are here to help. Here are some silly, sexy, and scary costume ideas that you can throw together from pieces of clothing you already own or items you can buy on a quick trip to Masonville Mall.

1. MINION

Minions, the adorable yellow creatures from Despicable Me, are arguably the most hilarious non-verbal animated characters, and dressing up as one is so easy to do. All you’ll need for the outfit is a pair of overalls, a yellow top, a pair of black gloves, and a yellow toque or beanie. For the goggles, cut up toilet paper rolls horizontally into two circles for each eye. Cover them in tinfoil and staple them together. Then, get a headband from the dollar store and staple each end of the headband to the sides of each eye. Try speaking in “Banana Language” for the whole night - it will really throw your friends off.

Overalls $50 (ON SALE), Urban Outfitters

Yellow Top $14.40 (ON SALE), Hudson's Bay

Gloves $20, ALDO

Beanie $6 (ON SALE), Forever 21

2. PIRATE

A pirate is a great last-minute costume because the outfit is actually so trendy. You probably own at least one if not all of the pieces already, so it's easy to throw together. Wear a flowy white blouse with leggings, and over the knee boots. You can accessorize with a bandana tied around your head, hoop earrings, and a corset belt. Don’t forget to pile on the eyeliner, and channel your inner Jack Sparrow.

Blouse $72, Urban Outfitters

Corset Belt $17 (ON SALE), Urban Outfitters

Over-the-knee Boots $90 (ON SALE), Hudson's Bay

Bandana $4.55 (ON SALE), Claire's

3. NERD

During midterms, this costume is probably not a stretch for some of you. This costume includes a plaid skirt, and plain white blouse. Unbutton the blouse from the bottom and tie it in a knot. If you had a uniform in high school, you can wear that for nostalgic feels. Slip on the tube socks, glasses (real or fake), and Converse sneakers. To finish off this look, tie your hair into two pigtails, and you are ready to geek out.

White Blouse $20, H&M

Plaid Skirt $60, Urban Outfitters

Glasses $8.75, Claire's

4. DEVIL AND ANGEL

Are you heaven or hell? Despite this costume being the most #basic one out there, Devils and Angels are a great dress up idea for Halloween, especially with a friend! For the Devil outfit, all you’ll really need is a red bodysuit or cute top, and pair it with jeans, shorts, or a skirt to make it girly yet fun. Grab your pitchfork, and devil horns, and you’re all set. For an Angel, you will want to wear all white – whether it be a dress or top, and bottoms, either is a perfect match for this costume. The Angel accessories will go perfect with the rest of your outfit, and are easy to find if your stressed with midterms. You’ll look just like a dream!

5. ZOMBIE

Although this isn’t necessarily the “cutest” Halloween costume, it is definitely one of the coolest, yet simplist ones to do. Let’s talk Zombies. If you’re a risky one, go for the extremely dead look, where people think it’s cool to put insanely hard and scary-looking coloured contacts, and wrap yourself in actual toilet paper or saranwrap. Or, you could go for the lazy University student, who just throws on a cut up t-shirt, and splatters blood all over themselves to make them look dead. Either way, it is still cute and definitely going to scare someone at your party! To create a successful Zombie look, find a plain white t-shirt, slash it with some holes, and buy some blood from the party store to make you look extra scary, and dead! This is by far the easiest costume to create if you're short on time.

Gildan Oversized Cotton T-Shirt $4.00, Amazon

Fake Blood FX $6.99, Party City
